A quality early childhood program provides a safe and stimulating environment that promotes the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of a child. Children should be provided with opportunities to investigate and explore their world creatively in a hands-on environment. A developmentally appropriate program recognizes that:

  • Children construct their own knowledge
  • Learning activities must be active not passive
  • Language develops best in a social context
  • Families and communities must be more fully involved as partners with schools
  • Appropriate assessment strengthens learning and teaching
  • Positive social environments contribute to learning
  • Honoring children’s cultural backgrounds helps them maintain and build self respect and honor the cultures of others

About our Pre-KindergartenImage may contain: 5 people, people smiling
The Pre-Kindergarten program at Assumption Academy is staffed with a state-licensed, vibrant teacher and full-time educational aide. Daily lesson plans and activities meet Diocesan and State Standards for Early Education. The full curriculum is delivered with gradual acceleration and differentiation because all children learn, but not always the in same way, on the same day. Small-group instruction enhances the attention that children receive from the teacher.
