Power of the Pen is a writing club for seventh and eighth graders. The club meets once a week after school. They are given various prompts to write about and discuss in order to sharpen their writing skills. Ultimately, this group will go to a district competition in which they will compete against other area schools. The competitions involve student writing and being judged by a panel of judges based on writing creativity. Winners will receive trophies and other awards. Select winners from the district competition will move on to a regional writing competition. The basic idea behind Power of the Pen is to encourage aspiring writers and promote creative thinking skills.
